Anise Navette : A Delight for Lovers of the South of France

At the Biscuiterie de Provence, we are creators of incredibly delicious biscuits and cakes. You probably already know the navette with orange blossom; well, today, we present to you the anise navette. A brand-new recipe that adds to our range of traditional biscuits for your greatest pleasure !

Anise Navette: a unique creation from the Biscuiterie de Provence !

Inspired by our traditional recipe with orange blossom, our pastry chefs imagined a variation with anise. A long-term work to find the perfect dosage of this much-loved flavor in Provence.

After numerous trials, we found the exquisite recipe ! A biscuit with a sandy texture and its characteristic boat-shaped form of the Marseille navette, dating back to 1781. When you have your biscuit in hand, you can see the tiny anise seeds and, above all, smell the characteristic scent...

From the very first bite, you will be transported to the South, with its warm sun and the song of the cicadas.

If you love anise, then be sure not to miss out on trying our delicious recipe !

The Origin of the Provençal Navette

The navette, this little biscuit of Marseille origin, has nearly three centuries of history. Its origins remain somewhat unclear, but its creation is attributed to Monsieur Aveyrous, a baker from Marseille, in 1781. He would have designed this biscuit to commemorate the arrival of the Saintes Maries on the shores of Provence. Its characteristic boat shape is inspired by the dinghy that would have guided them to the coast. To add a touch of sweetness to this biscuit, Monsieur Aveyrous incorporated orange blossom into his recipe.

Every year, in Marseille, the navette is celebrated during Candlemas, in homage to the presentation of Jesus at the temple. This biscuit, with a rich history, continues to share its flavors through the generations.

Why did we choose Anise?

We searched for our new biscuit recipe for a characteristic plant from the south of France that would resonate with the most people, and the choice fell on anise! It is a little-exploited ingredient that nevertheless has many benefits.

A symbol of sun and relaxation, we also wish, through our biscuit, to transport you to our beautiful region.

The Benefits of Anise

Anise is a plant with multiple virtues. Used for centuries for its medicinal properties, it is known for its benefits on health and well-being.

Firstly, anise is reputed for its digestive properties. Indeed, it promotes digestion by stimulating the production of gastric juices and facilitating intestinal transit. An infusion of anise after meals can help relieve digestive disorders: bloating, stomach cramps, and nausea.

Moreover, anise has antispasmodic properties, making it a valuable ally in relieving stomachaches and colic in infants. It can also help soothe menstrual pain in women.

Anise is also known for its expectorant and antitussive properties. In inhalation or infusion, it can help relieve the symptoms of respiratory conditions such as coughs, colds, and bronchitis.

Anise is also appreciated for its relaxing and soothing action. Its scent acts as a real antidote to stress and anxiety.

Incorporating anise into our daily lives can only contribute to improving our health and quality of life in a natural and effective way!
